John Tompson began training in Taolu Wushu in 2014 and began coaching in 2024. Since starting his martial arts journey, he has competed in numerous competitions, beginning in Saskatchewan before progressing to national and international events.
John first competed at the national level in 2018 and has continued competing in the senior division. More recently, he competed at the 2025 and 2026 Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships.
Some of John's accomplishments include three gold medals and one silver medal at the Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships, as well as a bronze medal for Gunshu (staff) at the International Wushu Festival and National Championships.
John’s approach to teaching goes beyond kicks, punches, and physical techniques. He believes that there is meaning behind every movement in martial arts and enjoys helping students discover that deeper understanding.
Having experienced the challenges of training himself, John understands how important a positive and supportive training environment can be. He remembers how teammates encouraged one another when practices became difficult, making those challenges easier to overcome.
John strives to create that same supportive environment for his students while helping them build skills, confidence, and an appreciation for the deeper aspects of Wushu.
